Coastal Change Open Data Files

The coastal monitoring database is a collection of coastal data to assess the erosion or accretion rates of coastal areas, changes in beach profiles and areas at risk to coastal flooding around Newfoundland and Labrador. A multi-year coastal monitoring program was initiated by the Geological Survey of Newfoundland and Labrador (GSNL) in 2011, to build upon previous projects started in 1981 by the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC). The database contains the locations of the study sites, and the years of study, rate of coastal erosion, orthophotographs, photographs, 3 D models, digital elevation models, and flood risk maps of each site, where applicable. The database can be used by various decisions makers, including town planners, municipal leaders, engineers and policy makers to enhance their knowledgebase of landscape change and risks when making planning decisions around our coast.

This data has been published by the Newfoundland and Labrador Statistics Agency on behalf of the Department of Natural Resources, and is being released under the Open Government Licence for Newfoundland and Labrador.
